Lower Mustang Trip

A shorter ride up the Kali Gandaki valley to Kagbeni and Muktinath. Mustang's high desert without the full restricted-area push.

A nine-day ride up the Kali Gandaki valley to Kagbeni and Muktinath, with the towering views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and the Annapurna range as constant company. Mostly sealed road with rough patches, so it suits riders who want Mustang’s landscapes without the technical off-road of the upper region.

Highlights include the apple capital of Marpha, Dumba Lake, the pilgrimage town of Muktinath below the Thorong La, Kagbeni’s stone alleys and a soak in Tatopani’s hot springs on the way back to Pokhara.

Our representative meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport with your name on a placard and drives you to the hotel. The rest of the day is yours to rest, check your gear and go over the route before the ride begins.

West on the Prithvi Highway through hills, river valleys and roadside towns, with lunch near the banks of the Trishuli River before the winding run into Pokhara and its lakeside evening.

The Baglung Highway to Beni Bazaar, with Annapurna, Machhapuchhre and Dhaulagiri above the terraced farmland, ending at Lete under the Annapurna range.

04 Lete → Muktinath50 km / 4 hrs

Along the Kali Gandaki through stone villages and Marpha, Nepal's apple capital, under Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Nilgiri (7,061 m) and Tukuche Peak (6,920 m). Past Jomsom to Dumba Lake and up to Muktinath, sacred to Hindus and Buddhists alike, at the foot of the Thorong La.

05 Muktinath → Upper Kagbeni → Tatopani90 km / 6 hrs

A morning at Muktinath, then down to Kagbeni with its narrow stone alleys and Tibetan architecture, out through Santa village and Jomsom, and a detour to the little-visited Titi Lake before the hot springs at Tatopani.

Back through Beni to the smooth highway, mountains on one side and village life on the other, into Pokhara by late afternoon.
