Manang Valley Ride

Jeep trails and forest gorges up the Marsyangdi to Manang, then Gangapurna Lake, Khangsar and Green Lake via Upper Pisang.

Nine days up the Marsyangdi valley into the heart of the Annapurna region. The trail from Besisahar to Chame is a rugged jeep track through waterfalls, gorges and pine forest, then the valley opens into the drier, Tibetan-influenced landscape around Pisang and Manang.

An acclimatisation day takes in Khangsar, the turquoise Gangapurna Lake and Bojo Gompa, before the ride to Green Lake via Upper Pisang under Annapurna II. The return descends to the hilltop Newari town of Bandipur and on to Kathmandu.

West on the Prithvi Highway, then the Marsyangdi River through winding valleys and old villages to Besisahar, the gateway town to the Annapurna Circuit.

The real riding starts: a rugged jeep trail past riverside cliffs, deep gorges and pine-covered hills, with a stop at Tal and its waterfall and river beach, under the Lamjung Himal.

04 Chame → Manang35 km / 5 hrs

One of the finest stretches on the route: past Pisang and up into drier, Tibetan-influenced country under Annapurna II and Gangapurna, arriving in Manang to rest and let the altitude settle.

05 Manang, Gangapurna & KhangsarAcclimatisation day

Short rides and short walks: out to Khangsar for the panorama of Tilicho Peak, down to the turquoise glacial water of Gangapurna Lake, and up to Bojo Gompa above the village.

Through Upper Pisang, the richest village on the route culturally, out to the quiet of Green Lake with Annapurna II, Gangapurna and Tilicho Peak close enough to feel.

Down out of the mountains and back onto tarmac, finishing at Bandipur, a preserved Newari town on a ridge, for the sunset.
